Laurie & The Cuban Heels to play live in Glasgow!

Looks like Laurie and The Cuban Heels had such a great time at The Spirit of Punk in Greenock on Friday night, they’re gonna do it all again very soon!

Be sure to come along and check ’em out at the O2 Academy Glasgow on 2nd August 2019.

Supporting them will be rock ‘n’ roll duo The Bikini Bottoms and grunge ukulele artist Dissenter.

The Cuban Heels rock the Beacon!

The Cuban Heels performed for the first time since the 80s at last night’s SPIRIT OF PUNK celebrations for RIG Arts’ Inverclyde Music Heritage project.

Véloniños guitarist Laurie Cuffe was joined on stage by band mates John Milarky and Nick Clark with drummer Lesley McLaren supporting them behind the kit. The energetic set list included “Smok Walk”, “Sweet Charity” and the band’s interpretation of the Petula Clark classic “Downtown” amongst others.

As part of these celebrations an exhibition with photography, press clippings and memorabilia from Inverclyde’s vibrant music scene of the 70s and 80s is also on display at the Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock until Friday 19th July 2019.

Laurie to join The Cuban Heels at Spirit of Punk Celebration!

The Spirit of PunkWe wanted to let you know that Laurie will be joining his band mates from The Cuban Heels for a one-off gig (and their first since the 80s!) at The Spirit of Punk, an upcoming celebration of Inverclyde’s 70s and 80s music scene taking place at The Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock on 12th July 2019.

Gary Crowley’s Punk & New Wave Box Set Featuring The Cuban Heels

We were pleased to see Gary Crowley’s upcoming “Punk & New Wave” box set, which features over 70 tracks from 1977-1982, includes “Downtown” by The Cuban Heels.

Released in 1978, this cover of the 60s classic features Davie and Laurie on drums and guitar.

A little blast from the past…

Jon Hillcock played “Hard Times” and “Walk On Water” by the Cuban Heels on BBC Radio 6 Music​ last night.

These recordings are taken from a live session, recorded for John Peel on Radio 1 back in March 1981, with Laurie on guitar.

CCA Glasgow is a very special venue for us, we played our first live show there as part of Ceòl’s Craic Americana Night in September 2013 and returned two more times in September 2014 and September 2015. We can’t wait to play at the venue again in January with James King and the Lonewolves.
